Pellicciotti places; sets school record

Alex Pellicciotti concluded his junior year by placing 7th in the PIAA State Wrestling Championship for the second year in a row while simultaneously setting a new school record for wins in a single season. The old mark for wins in a single season in Boyertown's storied history was 47. The record, held by Fred Rodgers (2006) and Jesse DeWan (2007) was eclipsed by Alex Pelliciotti during his final match, a 9-0 lopsided lashing of District I rival, Mat Martoccio of Council Rock South High School, now stands at 48. Earlier in the day, Alex, dropped a 4-1 decision to former State Champion Cortland Choate of Blue Mountain. On Friday, Jeremy Minich lost a 5-3 decision to State Runner Up, Zach Horan of Nazareth HS and then lost to Brandon Choate of Blue Mountain HS. Matt Malfaro dropped a 9-2 decision to Central Dauphin's Simon Rice and then dropped a heart breaking 6-5 decision to South Western's Cameron Throkmorton. Alex Pelliciotti beat South Western's Drew Rebling 3-2, earning him his second straight PIAA medal. Tim Feroe dropped a a 2-0 decision to his District I nemisis, Jim Vollrath of Council Rock South HS.

Coach Ventresca commented at the conclusion of the 2008-2009 State Tournament, "Overall I felt we wrestled well out here. We ran into some incredibly tough competition and were able to hold our own. I was proud of the way our kids fought, and how they were able to bounce back from adversity. It speaks to their character, and it is a positive sign for things to come in the future."

Congratulations Boyertown Youth Wrestling Club!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!

"Fantastic Four" are bound for Chocolatetown USA

This weekend, seven Boyertown wrestlers went to battle in the South Eastern Regional Tournament at Oxford High School. After the dust cleared, four BASH wrestlers remained; Alex Pellicciotti, Jeremy Minich, Matt Malfaro and Tim Feroe all punched their ticket to Hershey by placing in the top four of their respective weight classes in an extremely competitive and very exciting tournament. Taking home gold for the Bears was Alex Pellicciotti. Alex wrestled an extremely smart tournament. He outworked his opponents and took advantage of their mistakes. Alex (now 45-3) worked his way through the tournament by collecting a fall, a major decision and two regular decisions in his gold medal performance. Jeremy Minich (now 40-5) earned his way to the finals by collecting two falls and a decision before he dropped a 2-0 decison to the #1 seed, Dan Dortone of Springfield Delco. Matt Malfaro (now 40-6) also fought his way into the finals with a bye (due to an another wrestler missing weight) a major decision, and a decsion before he was knocked off track by the #1 seed, Council Rock North's Zach Haynes. Senior Tim Feroe (now 41-8) earned his second straight trip to Hershey the hardway. Tim who made his way to the semi-finals by collecting two falls, dropped a 6-2 decison to the eventual Champion, Jim Vollrath of Council Rock South. Tim then fought his way back to a bronze medal and state birth with two straight falls.

Other BASH wrestlers who unfortunately had their outstanding seasons cut short were Trevor MacMinn, Tyler Mauger and Zach Heffner. Mauger and Macminn both went 0-2 on the day in two extremely tough weight classes. Heffner who earned his way to the semi finals with two falls, dropped a 6-4 decision to the #1 seed and eventual runner up, Andre Petroski of Springfeild Delco. Heffner then lost a heart breaking 6-4 decision to Soudertown's Joe Stolfi, which eliminated him from earning a top four finish and a trip to Hershey. Heffner ended up taking fifth place

Coach Ventresca commented about the BASH wrestlers performances, "I felt that our boys wrestled well. This is an extremely tough tournament that tests you both physically and mentally. I was glad to see how well our veteran wrestlers were able to step up and produce in the pressure filled environment." As a team, the Bears finished a respectable 2nd place after being outpointed by Team Champion, Council Rock South High School. The "Fantastic Four" will be competing at Hershey this weekend starting on Thursday. They are looking to take home some hardware and should be a force to be reckoned with.
