The 3 Step plan is designed to take a child that has never had any formal
wrestling training and move them through an organized learning system whereas
the child will move from step to step depending on their ability to learn, their
ability execute wrestling skills and their level of success. Our goals are: (1)
To develop fundamentally solid young wrestlers with good character and the
desire to be successful. (2)To coordinate our training program with the
Boyertown Junior and Senior High School programs. (3) To continue the tradition
of Championship Wrestling in Boyertown.
NOVICE – Practice 1 hour, 2x per week
Tuesday and Thursday - 5:30 to 6:30 @ Jr. High WEST
First year wrestlers, typically grades K & 1, that want to explore wrestling. Basic
introduction to wrestling. Learning through fun activities is emphasized. Competition
at this level is not required or encouraged.
STEP 1 - Practice 1.5 hours, 2x per week
Tuesday and Thursday - 6:30 to 8:00 @ Jr. High WEST
Older First year wrestlers will typically start at this level. Wrestler needs to be
able to focus in group instruction and follow directions. Technical skills from each
position will be taught with emphasis on takedowns. Skills are broken down into steps
and proper technique is stressed. Repetitive drilling is an integral part of
training. The wrestler WILL be expected to compete in all club scheduled competitions.
STEP 2 - Practice 2 hours, 2x per week
Tuesday and Thursday - 6:00 to 8:00 @ SENIOR HIGH OLD GYM
The wrestler should have at least 1 year wrestling experience or have the ability to
learn and apply new skills quickly. Buildings on the skills of step 1, more advanced
skills are learned from each position. Repetitive drilling is more aggressive. More
emphasis is placed on conditioning, power, speed and proper technique in live wrestling.
The wrestler WILL be expected to compete in all club scheduled competitions. To move to
Step 3 the wrestler should have a fair level of success in ICWL competition. A 2 year
stay at Step 2 will be normal.
STEP 3 - Practice 2 hours, 3x per week
Monday, 6:00 to 8:00 @ Jr. High WEST
Tuesday and Thursday - 6:00 to 8:00 @ SENIOR HIGH OLD GYM
Advanced wrestlers only. Should have at least 2 years wrestling experience, the ability
to perform specific technical skills, the ability to learn and apply new skills quickly
and has had a fair level of success in competition. More attention is focused on
individual strengths and weaknesses. Score board victories are important measures of
success. Team leadership and discipline is expected. Advancement to the Jr. High programs
is stressed.
